Provides Robust Defense-in-Depth Security While Streamlining Compliance Audits and Reporting

Palo Alto, Calif., November 11, 2021 – Kiteworks, the leading platform for ensuring regulatory compliance and effectively managing risk with every send, share, receive, and save of sensitive content, announced today the availability of comprehensive managed file transfer (MFT) governance, compliance, and security capabilities in the Kiteworks platform.

Security and Compliance Gaps of Traditional MFT Approaches

Unlike other MFT solutions, Kiteworks was designed with modern MFT use cases in mind—encrypting both sensitive data in transit and its storage on the server, providing comprehensive compliance trail reporting, and delivering robust security protection. Security capabilities include geofencing, integrated data loss prevention (DLP), advanced threat protection (ATP), and continuous data protection (CDP).

“Traditional MFT solutions only authenticate users and encrypt data in transit,” said Bob Ertl, Senior Director of Industry Solutions at Kiteworks. “System administrators must separately install and update the operating system, database, and application services, which requires ongoing access to the database and file system. Kiteworks provides a defense-in-depth security model for comprehensive hardening that requires no configuration by the customer and prevents access by administrators. Another problem with legacy MFT models is that their privacy and security controls do not account for many industry and government standards and thereby produce an incomplete, dispersed audit trail for compliance. In contrast, Kiteworks delivers unified logging and analytics needed for threat detection, incident response, and forensics, and our out-of-the-box compliance reports make demonstration of compliance easy and fast.”

Kiteworks Secure MFT Server and Clients

The Kiteworks MFT architecture consists of Secure MFT Server and MFT Clients. Built on Apache Airflow, Kiteworks Secure MFT Server centralizes large-scale, automated operations and multi-user authoring and management while employing a hardened virtual appliance with a network firewall and web application firewall (WAF). Kiteworks Secure MFT Clients automate local workflows and access to local files and processes on Microsoft Windows.

The Kiteworks platform serves as a secure data store or vault for the content to be transferred, rather than requiring data to reside on endpoints and servers across the network. The Kiteworks platform is subject to regular penetration testing, and a generous bug bounty program expands the pool of experts looking for vulnerabilities. Its assume-breach internal architecture slows attackers and rapidly alerts the security operations team when an attack occurs.
